For this months Michael Miller ambassadorship project, l had fun revisiting one of my favourite quilt patterns, the delightful "Hook and Pop Quilt". When l saw this collection, l immediately got excited about and this quilt design was the first to pop in mind. The Hello Summer collection is a treasure trove of fabrics that evoke memories of sun-soaked afternoons, carefree moments and enjoying simple pleasures.
These are the fabrics l chose for my baby sized Hook and Pop quilt, bright pops of could against a backdrop of navy and cream. Cutting into these happy fabrics was like unleashing a burst of happiness and warmth, l couldn't help but smile at what they will become. The fabrics are beautiful to handle and sew with which made the project all the more sweeter
It was so much fun sewing curves again after a brief hiatus, l forgotten how much joy sewing curves bring. Using the prints to sew the curves just added a touch of whimsy and playfulness to the quilt, creating a dynamic and visually captivating design. For those who are curious about sewing curves, here are some sewing curves tutorials here and here, to explore and jump on board this beautiful the sewing curves train
For the quilting, l went with a simple gridline design, that is not too distracting and complements the design well. I enjoyed quilting this using a 40wt neutral coloured thread by Aurifil
No quilt is complete without a fabulous backing, and this time, l took things to the next level with a party in the back! Trust me, l hardly sew more than two fabrics for my back so this was a massive level to attain for me. I not only use two but used a few of the fabrics used for the quilt top to make my very first patchwork quilt back. A bit wonky but a patchwork quilt back none the less. Super pleased with myself if you can't already tell....ha!
I enjoyed this making this Hook and Pop quilt very much. It was like visiting an old friend and picking up right were we left off.
Fabrics used are Cotton Couture basics in Midnite and Parchment, Hello Summer collection in Colourful Yellow, Lipstick and Lily Pad; Sunshine Multi and Summer Blue and Lipstick.
