More about Diamond Lily for now.

I have always wanted to have a design named after my children as they are a big driver in doing what l do.  Diamond Lily got it's name after my eldest daughter Lily (8yrs).  She has been there from the very beginning of LynsAvenue.  When she was a baby, we would spend our weekly outing in a fabric shop, petting and sometimes buying said fabric.  Being in a new city where l hardly knew anyone and being a new mom, these weekly dates after our mother's group became such a blessing to me.  Needless to say, she has grown to have a love of all things fabric, loves to sew and loves hanging around with me in the sewing room. When l designed this pattern, all l could think of was my Diamond Lily. She is a real gem, a precious diamond destined for big bold amazing things in her bright sparkly life.

Making the Diamond Lily quilt pattern was really fun and surprisingly simple after l scrapped my initial piecing method.  The block is a simple one laid out in a way that shows two different blocks and lovely secondary designs as if on point. Diamond Lily is a twin size quilt measuring 62" x 72" finished.

I love the bright bold colours of this quilt and l'm so glad l went with these colours. My original colours, whilst beautiful, just did not spark the joy in me that gets me doing a happy dance when looking at it than this one does.  Fabrics used for this quilt are Kona Solids in Ice Frappe, Royal, Canary and Smoke and the Hot Pink is the Leuteneggar Quilters Cotton.  The yellow binding was also a very last minute change from the planned hot pink and this ties up the whole design perfectly.

For the quilting l went with my go to vertical straight line quilting one inch apart and l feel that it gives the quilt a nice simple finish that does not detract from the quilt design.  I loved taking this quilt in the wild for the photos at our local park.  The quilt colours against the nature backdrop are the perfect match with the beauty of the quilt design enhanced a bit more.

It is so exciting and surreal seeing my quilt pattern design in Make Modern Magazine.  I cannot wait to see your take on the Diamond Lily quilt pattern.  Be sure to tag me in your makes @lynsavenue and use hashtag #diamondlilyquilt and #lynsavenuepatterns.  Subscribe to Make Modern Magazine Issue 43 for your copy of the quilt pattern and 9 other modern quilt patterns from amazing quilt designers.  Make Modern offers a number of subscription options on top of the single issue which are their 6 months, 12 months or All Access subscriptions.
