My Favourite Tools for Making the Coven Crown Quilt
The Coven Crown Quilt features the twinkling Friendship Stars, and some Half-Square Triangle (HST) magic. To help make the process smoother (and more enjoyable), I’ve rounded up a few of my favourite tools that made sewing this quilt a breeze.
Hera Marker
Coven Crown uses some stitch and flip techniques that require marking lines as part of the prep work. When it comes to marking lines the Hera Marker is hands-down my favourite tool. I love it because it completely takes the stress out of marking; no ink, no chalk, no worry about leaving behind visible marks on your fabric. It creates a crisp crease that’s easy to follow and disappears naturally as you work or press. Simple, clean, and worry-free.
Half-Square Triangle Slotted Trimmer
This HST Slotted Trimmer is a game-changer when it comes to trimming all those HSTs. It speeds up the process and makes it so much more accurate; no more fussy measuring or wobbly edges. I highly recommend it for keeping your stars sharp and your sanity intact.
Wool Pressing Mat & Tailor’s Clapper
Flat seams make such a difference in how this quilt comes together. A wool pressing mat helps retain heat while pressing, and the tailor’s clapper is my go-to for getting seams extra flat and crisp. Your quilt top will thank you!
Quilting Rulers
Accurate trimming is key for clean block assembly. A good set of quilting rulers really helps when it’s time to square up your blocks and keep everything aligned. I used a 6.5" x 24.5" for the bigger pieces/blocks and the 6.5" x 6.5" for the smaller ones.

Quilting
One of the things I love most about the Coven Crown Quilt is all that glorious negative space! It’s like a big, blank canvas just begging for some quilty magic to be stamped on it.
When it came time to quilt mine, I went for free motion quilting, meandering my way all over the top; no plan, just simple stitching. I’m honestly obsessed with the texture it gave the quilt. Soft, wiggly, and full of character!
